Review - Happy Birthday Nancy Tobin by Lillian Grant

EVERY 40 year old needs a Jake!  I turned 40 this year and this book was a much needed read!

Naughty D's Review:
FORTY!!!  The age every women has been "trained" to dread.  We've all been programmed that once we reach FORTY we lose our attractiveness, things start sagging and heading south, coloring our hair is no longer an option but a must.  WORST of all men our age start trading us in for the younger models.  Not to mention if we have been blessed with kids, many of us experience our kids leaving the nest around this age.  With all this programming, it's not wonder so many of us feel worthless, self  conscious and like there's not much left to live for.

Nancy has lived her married life trying to be a good mother and wife, but her husband is a total cheating, self centered asshole.  He leaves her for another woman on her 40th birthday.  Nancy divorces him and in the process is approached by Jake, a sexy 26 yr old.  Nancy fights the intense chemistry between them, because she doesn't feel worthy, especially of the attention from a 26yr old hunk.  Jake is persistent and the courtship and sex are hot. 

Happy Birthday Nancy Tobin is a great read, I cried, laughed and sighed...oh and got quite tingly in me girly bits too ;-)  I really connected with Nancy and all the emotions she was going through

I recommend this book for anyone who is approaching or is over FORTY, actually for anyone fighting feelings for a younger man.  

NOTE:  this is not your normal romance...book deals with thoughts of suicide, infidelity, a cougar finding herself.

Naughty D's Review:

As a result of an accident Rafael has amnesia and can't remember the four week time period before the accident.  Rafael sees Bryony at a party, she only catches his eye because she is glaring at him, she's not his type so he has no idea why she would be staring a hole through him.  Bryony met and fell in love with Rafael when he visited the island she lives on.  When he left he told her he would be back soon, he never returned, four months later she travels to NYC to confront him over broken promises and oh yeah, he's going to be a daddy.    

At first I was worried this would be a typical amnesia story...but it wasn't typical, because Maya puts a twist in there.   I can't give too much detail because it would spoil the story.  What I can say is Rafael is a sexy, possessive man (even though he doesn't remember her, something about her makes him become possessive), Rafe is also a self-centered, do what ever it takes to win, take no prisoners man.  Bryony is a strong, yet vulnerable woman, she has no problem fighting Rafael or walking away from him even though she loves him, she will not settle for scraps of his attention.   

I really enjoyed Rafael and Bryony's story, I loved the interaction with the rest of Rafe's business partners/long time friends, Ryan, Dev and Cam.  I have to say I'm already in love with Ryan =)

I've read and enjoy Maya's erotic romances and her Desire books, however, there is a difference.When reading the Desire books one has to keep in mind that these books have to be shorter and do not have as much sex or descriptive sex in them, even with these restrictions Maya does not disappoint. Unless you forget that when reading the HD Maya books, you are not going to have a tremendous amount of sexin' going on and you won't get the nitty gritty dirty talk, that you get in her erotic no holes (oops holds) romances....SOOO don't try to compare the two types of books, they all have the Maya touch, just on different levels, but all have that Maya Magic =) 

It's been a while since I've read a Desire, Blaze, well any of the serial romances.  Reading EBHFL reminded me how much I love the steamy, shorter but still a full story, books for busy days or nights. Especially since I am the kind of person who LOVES to finish a book in one sitting, these books  are perfect when I only have a couple hours to read.
